Five Tulsa Public Schools teachers attended the Yale National Initiative's summer institute to participate in engaging seminars that helped them create unique lessons they can bring back for their students and other TPS teachers.
Fifth grade teacher Kirsten Purtell learned about the chemistry of cooking to share with her students at Eliot Elementary. Donavan Spotz took the Asking Questions in Biology seminar and developed a unit for his 8th graders at Thoreau Demonstration Academy.
Tina Berry created a unit for her art students at Will Rogers College High School based on what she learned during the institute. Wendy Dane wrote a unit for her English classes while taking a seminar on Asian American History and the Making of the US Immigration System.
Tara McKee attended a seminar called Resistance: From Aristotle to Star Wars and designed a unit for her 11th grade English students at Booker T. Washington High School. Read more about her experience at the summer program here.
